Reminder about May Program Planning Meeting for “Looking Forward Looking Back 2022”

Progress with LFLB 2022 ,You are invited to participate in planning the program for the 2 day festival

The next meeting for the Looking Forward Looking Back 2022 working group is on Monday 16 May.

A Zoom link will be sent out closer to the meeting.

The main task we will working on is finalising two flyers for both the M.A.D Pride concert and the Soapbox outlines (abstracts.

We would appreciate if you would forward this email to people in your network/s that may have an interest in presenting during this 2-day festival.

The festval will be celebrating the Centenary of the death of Henry Lawson.

Looking Forward Looking Back 2022 will celebrate the Centenary of the NSW State funeral of Henry Lawson.
This is the start of planning a two-day festival in September 2022

This report is being written by Douglas Holmes to give feedback to members who had registered (21) or attended one of the Zoom meetings in 2021/22 plus people on the SUPER CRO eNews Mailchimp.

The reason for the meeting is to continue the work from the previous meetings to celebrate the life of Henry Lawson on the 100th anniversary of his state funeral on 6th September 2022.

I have been asked several times what my interest in Henry Lawson is and why do you want to organise a 2-day forum about his life.

My interest is that I have always liked his poetry and short stories, however, I became aware through working at St Vincents Hospital in Darlinghurst for 12 years that he was diagnosed in 1902 with Bipolar Affective Disorder and stayed in Caritas a number of times up until 1914.

This document A History of the Lunatic Reception Centre in Darlinghurst gave me a greater understanding of the part that the Caritas unit at St Vincent’s Hospital played in Lawson’s life and inspired me to do something to celebrate his life.

    Sadly, despite this being well known, most recent reports on excess mortality and a mental ill-health diagnosis relay on “evidence” that is over a decade old.

    Hi MichealYes sadly as you say most reports are old news. However nothing much changes as you would know only too well. I was involved as the consumer consultant  along with Ginger Gordy. We did many consultations with people of lived experience. We reported to the committee that was chaired by Professor Geoff Riley. We also wrote a report of our findings from the many consultations across WA. It seams nothing much has changed despite all the recommendations of the committees findings. It’s such a waste of the public purse to keep pursuing committees like this when nothing but words on paper are not actioned. Yet more paper gathering dust in the basements of the health departments along with many dollars wasted with very little resulting from the $$$$$ spent.
